Ship Release Kit

An internal command-line release tool, ship, used by its developer to build and publish the developer's own mobile apps (such as Coday) to the App Store and Google Play.

What it does

YouTube integration

Google Play only accepts a YouTube link as an app's preview video. Ship Release Kit uses the YouTube Data API to:

  1. Let the developer connect their own YouTube channel through Google sign-in (OAuth 2.0).
  2. Upload the app's promo video file to that channel as an unlisted video.
  3. Read the status and original file name of the developer's own uploads, to tell whether the video already on the store listing is the same file as the local one, so the same video is never uploaded twice.
  4. Write the video's link into the app's Google Play store listing.

It only requests the youtube.upload and youtube.readonly scopes, and only ever touches the connected channel's own videos. The developer can disconnect at any time from the tool, or by removing access at Google Account → Third-party connections.

By using Ship Release Kit you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
